The Association of Business Leaders in Education (ABLE) takes your privacy very seriously. We collect and use only the minimum personal data necessary to provide our membership services, which is in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. What Personal Data Do We Collect?
We collect the following types of personal data:
Your name, school or organisation, job role, and contact details (such as email and phone)
Payment data for processing membership fees and event bookings
We may also collect optional profile information if you choose to use the ABLE Rewards App.
2. How Do We Use Your Data?
We use your data for the following purposes:
To manage your membership and provide services related to your membership
To send you termly newsletters and updates via HubSpot
To notify you about ABLE events and offers, including those from approved partners and sponsors that we believe may be of interest
To manage event registrations and process related payments
To enable access to the ABLE Rewards App (where applicable)
To issue invoices and maintain financial records
3. Our Legal Basis for Processing
Under UK GDPR, our lawful bases for processing your personal data are:
Contractual necessity – to administer your membership and deliver services you’ve requested
Legitimate interests – to communicate with you about relevant events, services, or opportunities
Consent – where you have explicitly agreed for us to share your contact details with partners or sponsors
4. Data Security
Your personal data is stored securely using Microsoft systems that comply with:
ISO 27001 (Information Security Management)
ISO 27017 (Cloud Security)
ISO 27018 (Cloud Privacy)
We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data.
5. Third Parties and Data Sharing
We only share your data with trusted third-party providers for specific purposes:

We will never sell your data or share it with unauthorised third parties.
6. Partner Access and Analysis
A representative from some of our approved partners sits on the ABLE Committee. To help us analyse membership trends and promote the Association, we may share anonymised data (such as member names and schools) with the following partners:
Schools Advisory Service
SAAF Education
Breedon
Education Mutual
ATOM IT
We will only ever share your full contact details with these partners if you have explicitly consented.
7. ABLE Rewards App and eLearning Team
If you are an ABLE member, exhibitor, or sponsor, you may be provided with access to the ABLE Rewards App as part of your membership or package. The app allows users to network, share contact information, award reward points, and view conference content.
The app is developed and managed on our behalf by eLearning Team, who act as a data processor under UK GDPR. eLearning Team has access only to the data needed to operate the app and does not use your data for any other purpose. All app data is securely stored in the UK.
To use the app, you must agree to its Terms & Conditions upon first login. You can delete your account at any time through the app settings or by contacting ABLE directly.
8. Your Rights Under UK GDPR
You have the following rights:
Right of access – to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Right to rectification – to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
Right to erasure – to request your data be deleted (“right to be forgotten”)
Right to restrict processing – to limit how we use your data
Right to object – to stop us using your data in certain circumstances
Right to data portability – to receive your data in a format you can share with others

9. Data Retention
We will retain your personal data for up to 12 months after your membership ends or after your last interaction with us (whichever is later), unless required to keep it longer for legal, contractual, or financial obligations.
10. Cookies and Tracking
Our website and emails may use cookies or tracking technologies to monitor engagement and improve our services. You can manage cookie preferences via your browser settings.
